Pre-Christmas Celebrations

As usual, December was full of comings and goings and good times with friends and family (and of course, I managed to lose my voice for 3 or 4 days too).   The 5th was the school Christmas Concert.  Lydia got to wear her new dress and looked like a princess.  Carter knew his part exceptionally well and looked as handsome as ever and Brad gave a great performance of his poem that he'd won the poetry contest with.  Unfortunately, I had not realized that the kids were expecting to go out for donuts with Grandpa Matheson after the concert since that's what happened the last 2 years.  Unfulfilled expectations can be difficult hurdle to overcome.  After a good night's sleep by all we celebrated with treats the next morning.

The 9th was the stake Christmas concert.  Afterwards we had dinner & dessert with our good friends, the Goodalls, and got to meet Jenn's older children who we hadn't known as well before.  That same week was the Christmas theme Pack meeting for Carter and the Relief Society party for me both of which were great.  On the 15th, Alan, Megan & Logan came for a much anticipated visit.  It was so fun to have them for dinner and to spend the night.  We were just sad that we couldn't fit Megan's harp concert in the next morning.

The 16th was a birthday celebration for cousin Lauren and the 17th was our annual Christmas caroling at a nursing home with the Matheson extended family.  Uncle Monte came into town that day.  It was good to have him home.  Eve had her school Christmas party on the 20th. "Mom, it was sooooo fun!!!"  That evening we went caroling with the ward missionaries.  On the 21st was the much-anticipated last day of school for the big kids along with the ever-exciting school parties.  I had signed up to do the activity for Brad's class party but managed to schedule my OB appointment for that exact time and couldn't reschedule it.  We put together some stuff for a snowman making contest (each team wrapped their snowman in TP and then decorated him) and Brad ran the show for me instead.  A very capable young man.  That night Alex and I even managed to squeeze in an hour long date -- wahoo!

On the 22nd we took the kids on our annual Christmas shopping trip.  They usually make presents for eachother during December and then we pick names and they each get to buy a gift for two of their siblings.  They were all so thoughtful with their gifts.  The 23rd was Sunday and I got to accompany "only" 5 special numbers.  My practice time had been limited so I was grateful they all turned out well.  That afternoon, my good friend from UofA nursing school, Tiffany Schumacher and her daughter Abby came by.  We've kept in touch but hadn't seen eachother for several years so it was fun to visit in person.  Christmas Eve we spent playing with friends, delivering goodies to neighbors and then for dinner went to the Lee's for the annual McInerney family party.  We made sure to come home early enough that we could do our own tradition of acting out the nativity play.  That night, the kids all begged to have a sleepover together downstairs and surprisingly enough, actually all fell asleep at some point.
