Sophie Pearl Matheson was born Friday, January 18th at 3:11 pm and we've decided that she is definitely a keeper. She was 7 lbs 5 oz and 19 1/2 inches. We went to the hospital with our name list narrowed down to
only 11 choices. By the end of labor we'd got it down to 5 and when we were able to take a breather and get a good look at her Sophie won out. Pearl is from Julie's Great Grandma Ruby Pearl Watkins Blanchard. She was born with some excess fluid in her lungs and a small pneumothorax which won her extra attention from the NICU nurses but it turned that within a couple of hours she had fully transitioned and was breathing fine.
Grandma Sue and Aunt Karina stayed with the rest of the kids while we were in the hospital. Unfortunately for them (and fortunately for me) Lydia and Camille chose that day to succumb to the stomach bug that had been going around our house so on Saturday when the rest of the kids came to visit with Grandma Sue and Karina they had to stay behind with Grandma Matheson. We also had visits from Uncle Lincoln and Sadie (who saved Alex from freezing to death with a gift of hot chocolate), Grandma and Grandpa Matheson and Great-Grandpa Matheson who gave Sophie a lovely oriental doll.
On Sunday the big kids went to church with Grandma & Grandpa Matheson while Camille and Alex came to transport Sophie and I home. Camille was so proud of her new sister and especially proud that she could say her name "Dophie". She kept telling everyone that Sophie was "Dophie, MY Dophie". She has continued to be a wee bit possessive but then when you've got a baby sister this cute, who can blame her.
