-Carter finished his football season strong. He missed the final bowl game though because he chose to go to Cub Scout Day Camp at the San Tan Regional Park instead. His favorite things there were learning about fishing and building a birdhouse that will be placed in the park.
-We've enjoyed playing football as a family in the backyard. Lydia and Eve usually opt to be on the cheerleading squad (complete with pom-poms, skirts and yelling out cheers from the top of the picnic table) although lately they've been honing their catching skills.
-Brad had his orchestra concert last week. He sounds great on the violin and we're proud of him for picking up a second instrument.
-Brad and Carter both had their piano recital yesterday. They were two of the best students there and played their songs like true performers.
-UofA beat ASU!!! We didn't get to watch the game but did have great joy in returning an altered ASU football poster to our dear friends the Mullenaux's along with some UA shaped cookies. They'd left the poster and some sparky signs in the front yard yesterday.
-The Pack Mtg this month was the week of veterans day so they honored some veterans in the ward. There was a slide show on each veteran that the boys narrated and it was fun to get to know more about them. Brad and Carter both came home with some awards as well.
-We hosted the McInerney family FHE and learned about being thankful in all things and had a good time with cousins eating the monthly birthday cake.
-Our bedtime routine each night with the little kids has always been to tell a story (usually with them as a main character) and then sing them a primary song. I was thinking back through time . . . Brad always wanted a story about Thomas the Tank Engine, Carter loved animal/dinosaur themes, Lydia usually opted for Princesses or My Little Pony and now Eve, without fail, chooses a Brer Rabbit story where he is either going on an airplane trip or having a birthday party. We'll have to wait and see what Camille prefers.
-Alex and Julie had a good time socializing at Alan McHood's birthday party (really good food) and the ward social at the Slade's home (really big bonfire). We also got to go to the temple with the Duffany's for their first time doing baptisms which was wonderful. The Coldstone Creamery icecream afterwards wasn't so bad either.
-The kids have spent much of the last few days in the big ditch across the street making forts in the salt cedar trees. The Dudley and Clare kids have been big contributors to the effort as well.
-Alex got an education about solar energy at his latest Planning and Zoning meeting. It was illuminating. There are a few companies wanting to put in several acres of panels in Queen Creek.
-Today at church the choir sang "Harvest of Praise" (a personal favorite of ours) for Thanksgiving. The only problem was that I was accompanying, Alex was suposed to sing and we forgot to make arrangements for the kids while were doing it. Usually we would have just left Brad in charge for those few minutes but we've been watching Piper Sherwood while her parents are out of town and she won't let me out of her sight. Trying to discreetly pass her and Camille and Eve off to others mid-meeting was not so easy and then after the song Carter tore his pants and needed to go home to change them. When I whispered the news about the pants to Alex his only comment was, "We're a three-ring circus". Hopefully at least we provided entertainment for those watching.
-We took pictures for our Christmas card. As a mother I had aspirations for that picture perfect look but soon faced reality and we bribed the kids into doing a 10 minute "photo shoot" in the backyard. The only requirements were that you had a clean shirt and face, your hair was combed and you at least pretended to cooperate. Out of 30 pictures I think only 2 had at least 4 1/2 faces looking nearly in the same direction with eyes open. The final cut was definitely a true-to-life portrait.
-After pictures we paid off the bribe by taking them to eat at Sonic which was having a fundraiser for our friends who lost their home to a bad fire about a week ago. Gratefully they were gone at the time and are all fine. It's good for me to be reminded of what's really important in life. We are so very blessed.

I'm guessing the only reason you didn't go with the kids' favorite picture was that you and Alex weren't included, right? You have such cute kids--congrats to them on all their accomplishments! Hope you have a great Thanksgiving!
(And I don't have anything against gumdrops, but my kids only like some of the colors, so we usually end up with a sticky mess of half-eaten turkey feathers. But this year, they ate all the feathers in one day and the apples were gone in two, so we actually used all the food we played with.) :)
