A Wonderful Week

The hot weather has arrived. We had amazing weather most of May and June -- weeks in the 80's & 90's. The 100+'s have arrived and it looks like they're here to stay for a while.

This Tuesday, the 23rd, Alex & I had our 9th wedding anniversary. Sandy, the manager of the bank next to his dental office, brought him cupcakes at work and congratulated him on his anniversary. He was surprised and asked how she knew about it. It turns out she was referring to the anniversary of us owning the dental practice. Last year we celebrated our anniversary by signing what seemed like hundreds of papers to buy what has become Matheson Dentistry. This year Alex had the 22nd off so we decided to re-visit some of our former dating activities. We went ice skating at the new rink in Gilbert. My skating legs are quite rusty but Alex says I fall very gracefully. We also went out to eat by the Superstition Springs Mall for lunch just like we had 9 years previous on the day before our wedding. We did upgrade though from Schlotsky's Deli to The Cheescake Factory. Our actual anniversary day started out with an early morning double rainbow (I remember seeing one as I drove from Queen Creek to St. David 6/22/00) and ended with a beautiful sunset. I'm taking those as a good omen. The kids picked Military Day as our theme for this Friday. We made a star banner for the 4th of July, played Risk and had a water-balloon fight.

This Saturday the local performing arts center had their annual community theater show (i.e. featuring local talent). This year they did Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dream Coat. Grandpa Matheson treated us & the Stephenson cousins. It was a great production & the kids loved it. Brad & Carter were a little concerned about Pharaoh as Elvis and the Benjamin Calypso number. "They didn't dance like and wear those hats that when it really happened though, right?"

It's been fun to have Monte home from Iraq. Tonight he & Alex sang and I played piano. Then they did a few numbers with Alex on guitar and both singing. They do a mean 'Leaving on a Jet Plane'. Those are always good times. Bradley, Lydia & Grandma Matheson made Bosk Brownies (from Brad's Star Wars Cookbook) and we finished off the evening with brownies & icecream.
Carter preferred dousing himself to filling water balloons.

As Grandpa Paul would say, he comes by it honestly. Cousin Tyson Kartchner used the same method when fixing our leaky faucet at the Santa Rita house in Tucson back in the day.

Lydia, Eve, Carter & Brad prepare for war.
The aftermath.

I thought of you guys the other day when we were sitting in the seemingly blistering heat at Brayden's t-ball game. Of course when I saw that the high for the day was only 93, I realized I've gotten a bit wimpy since moving from Arizona. We had a cooler June this year with only 3 days in the 90s instead of the usual 18, but I think summer has really arrived now. Good thing we're meeting up with you in Alpine so I don't melt as fast. :)

P.S. Congrats on your anniversary--both of them!
