Dinosaurs, Pirates, Pecans, Anacondas, and the like . . .

This was a fun week. The kids chose a theme for every Friday this summer. Last week was dinosaur day. This week was Pirate day. We also went to a reptile show at the library. The crowning touch to that event was the chance to pet Goldie the anaconda. If I ever figure out how to get pictures off my phone we'll put a picture on here. Eve is growing fast. She still has no teeth but as you'll see below she's a pretty ferocious eater. She's getting better and better at walking and just this week figured out how to descend stairs without rolling (she's tried that a few times too). We've also had lots of pleasant (and a few not quite as pleasant) quiet, fun times around the house. This week we have 4 horses in the pasture mowing the grass (compliments of our friends the Secrists). Brad, my horse loving boy, has really enjoyed them. The kids were also incredible workers on Thursday. Their motivation was to earn enough Matheson Moolah (our made-up money that they use to buy computer/TV time or little toys at the Mom Store) to buy back the toys that ended up in mom's closet because no one had put them away. Carter managed to rack up $28. Work is play, you know. Unfortunately I managed to load all the pictures so that the last one ended up first, etc. so for a true play by play start at the bottom of the post and work your way up. : )

Lydia tames the crocodile of 'crocodile infested waters' fame
Alex walks the plank to earn his dessert
Brad defies both gravity and the crocodile

Carter rarely made it across because he was so busy 'accidentally' falling into the pool

The saga of the graham cracker and Pirate Eve (gotta love the faux - chocolate frosting - beard/mustache). Here is the After shot

During

Before (she's fierce, eh?)

Pirate Lydia and her pet Macaw

Pirates Carter and Lydia show off their banana boat lunches

Cap'n Brad and the Banana Boat

We caught Grandma Matheson in the act of swabbing the decks (she was etching the back porch concrete so that we could paint it)

Ready to sail the seven seas -- Carter, Brad, Lydia

Eve preferred tetherball to planting trees. She's been working on her game in hopes of winning the annual Thanksgiving day tournament at Jay & Ashley Lee's this year.

Brad, Alex, Carter & Lydia helped Grandma Matheson plant two new pecan trees in the back yard.

Brad & Carter have both been diligent at their piano practice. I'm impressed with the progress they've made. They're both working on a new song. Brad: Go Tell Aunt Rhody. Carter: Lightly Row.

Brad's dinosaur landscape for Dino Day (We had baked potatos, beans, broccoli, salsa & cheese and came up with mountains, volcanos, trees, rivers, etc).

Carter's dino landscape (notice the 3 types of dinos peacefully cohabiting -- what a dreamer).

Eve has multiple baths on a daily basis. We think you can tell why.

Carter and Lydia:
"Look mom, we're dancing like married people do"

Eve loves her big brothers.

Man you guys have been busy! Looks like lots of fun! (And for some reason the pictures always come up in backwards order from how you select them.)
