Halloween and Fall Festivities

Last week we decided to last minute throw the party we always talk about having.  Alex, with the help of his brother Lincoln, made lots of fabulous BBQ and green chile beef and then we invited neighbors, and other friends to bring something to share and help us eat it.  It was a really fun evening.  Roasting marshmallows and the doughnut-eating contest were big hits.  I can't remember the winners of the kids' doughnut contests but Jasta Dudley took the prize for the teens and Matt Allen systematically wolfed his down to win in the adults category.

Last night we attended our ward's Trunk-or-Treat.  Brad was a mountain man, Carter a pirate, Lydia a ladybug, Eve a cowgirl, Camille chose her own costume (ballet shirt, skinny jeans, cowgirl boots and a snow hat) and Alex dressed as his good friend Kenny Secrist.  I personally felt that I was doing pretty darn good to just show up with my brain half-intact this year.  The kids tell me I went as a pregnant lady which I think I pulled off without any problem.

Several years ago I made felt pumpkin trick-or-treat bags for the boys.  Carter had lost his and every year, he and the girls beg me to make one for them but I'm usually in the throes of executing costume requests and don't get around to pulling it off.  This year, Brad decided to make some for all his siblings including a tiny one for Camille.  He did an outstanding job of making a pattern from his bag and cut out all the pieces and then I helped some with the sewing.  The rest of the kids were thrilled.

The evening had just enough chill to make the firepit the favorite hang-out.
Not using your hands ain't as easy as it looks!
