On Saturday I had the fun opportunity to help out with the stake activity day girls event. It was fun to see the girls having a good time. Alex stayed up Saturday evening to finish preparing his talk for church. Then he stayed up a little later to follow the UofA vs. OK State football game. A very exciting win I hear. Alex did a great job with his talk on Sunday.
A quick update on the kiddos:
Bradley: Turns 11 this week. He reminds us of that often. He decided he wanted to try out a new instrument so he switched from violin/orchestra last year to trombone/band this year. He's doing great and has been teaching his siblings how to properly blow a horn. Today he signed up for the Geography Club and is contemplating a run for Student Council in the future. He started putting together a model of the USS Eisenhower and it's coming together nicely. Favorite activities include friends -- he got together with both David Allen & Bryson Gledhill this week -- and computer games which his mother is unfortunately far too stingy with.
Carter: Started tackle football last week -- after years of begging. He plays on the same team as his friend Carter Walker and Carter W's dad Jared is the coach. Practices are two hours of running and drills and Carter comes home every time with a mile-wide grin on his face and on cloud nine. He wanted all black for his practice outfit so we're calling him The Dark Knight. His x-ray checked out and it looks like his pain was maybe just a strained muscle that so far appears to have healed. School is going great & he's reading a book from his favorite Warriors series for his next book report. To make life even better, his top 3 teams (Oregon, Oregon State & UofA) are all undefeated. He also really wants to play the bass in orchestra but had to defer until football is over.
Lydia: Had to get new shoes & pants because she keeps growing taller and taller. First grade isn't quite as fun as she'd hoped so far but she's making some new friends and it gets better every day. She loves to play with friends and had a good week since she got to play with both Kesley Gledhill & Avery Stones. She's also a fantastic school teacher and is ready to teach any and everyone at any given moment. I'm also always amazed at how grown up and pretty and capable she is. My little Lydie-Lou isn't so little any more.
Eve: Started preschool a few weeks back and loves it. She has class Tues, Wed & Thurs mornings at Mrs. Richardson's. Mrs. R. loves it because Eve mispronounces her name slightly as "Richer Richardson". Eve has a way with words. A few days ago she was being a little too pouty and I told her she'd have to find a smile before we could do whatever she was wanted to do. The 'smiles' she gave me were of the corners down variety. I told her I still couldn't see a smile to which she replied, "It looks like a frowny face but it's really a smile."
Camille: Started talking in earnest. Yay! She's still pretty hard to understand with most words but "Momma" and "Dada" come through pretty clearly in the middle of the night. She watched Dumbo with the kids Saturday night and was really proud of herself afterwards that she could say his name ("Bumbo"). Naptimes & bedtimes have been a bit of a nightmare the past week. She decided it just wasn't for her. Her persistent personality translated into screaming at the top of her lungs for long periods of time -- whether we were with her or not. Gratefully the past few nights have been better. She's a fun girl and loves to play with all her siblings, climb on the table, jump off the couch and play peek-a-boo.
