Go Wildcats!

Here's Alex & Julie. Back at the UofA where it all began in the fabulous Fall of '97. (As a side note, despite her long-standing status as a dyed-in-the-wool Wildcat, December of 1997 was Julie's first college football game.)

It's the most wonderful time of the year . . . according to Alex Matheson, that is. He gets a little giddy everytime football season starts up again. We went to UofA's opening game in Tucson last night. They played Central Michigan University and won! Over the years we've become so used to UofA's football team losing that a win is always an exciting event. They actually played fairly well so we're looking forward to a decent season. Lydia & Eve stayed home and had a 'girl's party' with Grandma Matheson while Brad, Carter, Alex, Julie & Grandpa Matheson met up with Lincoln, Michelle, Monte, & the two Eric's (Monte's friends) for dinner and then the game. Aunt Michelle opted out of the game being a full 9 months pregnant. We look forward to meeting our new cousin by a least this Wednesday (the induction is slated for Tuesday night). In keeping with the late arrival theme, the game was delayed 45 minutes due to a thunder/lightning storm over the Catalina mountains. Not a speck of rain or bolt of lightning even came close to the stadium but the vendors did good business as we were all ordered out of our seats. We also ran into cousins Zane & Suzy Kartchner along with Jessica, Aubrey & Zach. It's always fun to see them.

A few other happenings of the week. Alex joined a local swim club and is swimming up a storm along with his cousin Ashley. 2012 Olympics here they come. Today we got to attend the baby blessing of Norma Villareal's son, Zadok. (To make a long story short, we actually missed the blessing by a few minutes but did make the dinner at the Owensby's place afterwards). Norma made the extremely difficult choice of choosing to place Zadok for adoption at birth this January but what a wonderful blessing it has been. Zadok's parents, Steve and Angie Owensby are amazing and Norma has become an incredible force for good. To quote Clucky in Robin Hood, "Love conquers all!".

Here's a pic of a proud dad and his boys. While constantly inundated with Sun Devil influences, we're proud to say that our kids are being raised with that true Bear Down Wildcat spirit. We take Proverbs 22:6 as our motto. : )
